Well, here we are. Not quite two full months into 2014, and I’ve finally got my loose list of 10 house goals all set. Procrastinate, much?
After getting a good majority of the 2013 goals out of the way, we’re left with a couple of rollovers plus some new contenders. In no particular order…
1. Create a cozy nursery for Butterball. Yes, that’s what we call our little man-to-be. This has arguably taken up most of my time the past few months as far as small projects are concerned but we’re in the homestretch. Here is the initial design plan.
2. Paint the mirror & wine rack in the kitchen/dining area. The previous owners left the mirror in the garage when they moved (along with some other furniture pieces that have since been donated and such) and Matt built the wine rack after our 2010 honeymoon to Napa Valley. I will say, the wine rack has been looking a little sparse since I got pregnant. Not sure what color I want to go with for the two pieces, but I’ll figure it out and it will be a nice warm-weather project.
3. Carve out and cultivate a new garden to surround the back deck. In the picture below, it would be the space that surrounds the white lattice.
While we’re at it…
4. Fix the lattice so that it has a boxed-in look and not a “we just slapped this up here” look. The latter is the look it’s rocking now…
And while we’re at that…
5. Finally paint the back deck railings. This was an epic fail for two years in a row and I vow to get it done this summer. Baby and all.
6. Add a new pendant light and new curtains to the kitchen. This is less DIY and more BUY, but that’s okay, right?
7. Install board and batten to the dining area. Our kitchen/dining area is the heart of this house, and I’d love to add this detail to cozy up the space. Something like this…
8. Install a new bathroom vanity top. Yes, this is a rollover from last year. Yes, we are aware we need it badly.
And while we’re talking bathroom upgrades…
- Install a new bathroom sink fixture.
And while we’re lingering on bathroom upgrades…
10. Rip out the dated medicine cabinet/dressing-room-light combo and replace with a smaller medicine cabinet/double sconce combo. Kind of like this…
So that’s 10 of ‘em. Some outdoors, some indoors. Some large scale updates and some smaller ones. Some with lots of Home Depot trips and saw cuts, some that require perusing the internet for a good sale. Either way, we have our work cut out for us (especially with Butterball’s arrival a mere 4 weeks away…). We’re ready for the challenge, and can’t wait to see how this ol’ school house looks at the end of 2014. Fingers crossed!
What’s on your “House Goals List” for this year? Have you thought about it and conquered some projects already? Maybe you’re worse than I am and will start drafting it well into 2014…
