I have admired garden stools since they started appearing in my circle (decor magazines/homes of friends) a few years back. They were originally used as extra seating in Chinese gardens as long as 1000 years ago, since Chinese homes were traditionally built around their courtyard or garden. I want one so badly, and have for some time, but I still haven’t pulled the trigger. I know they are a great way to add extra seating (which we desperately need in our tiny living room) or to use as an occasional table, and they come in all diferent colors and sizes, I still can’t picture one anywhere in my house.
However, I’ve always been one to at least know my options when I choose to pop on something, so here are the contenders:
This guy from Overstock.com is funky and metalic, while still maintaining the traditional shape that I love. (Some designers/manufacturers have gone reeeallly funky - think square or fluted - and it’s just not my jam.) Plus, if I plan on using it outdoors, the sunshine hitting the chrome would look really cool against the green lawn and my colorful ceramic pots. They have this guy in so many other colors like moss green and the chartreuse that I love, but I think I’d be able to morphe the chrome into any design setting easier.
I love the texture of this one from Williams-Sonoma and it goes with a lot of my stuff already being that it’s jute-y and sisal-y (technical design terms) but I wouldn’t be able to leave it outdoors.
Once I get the deck floor stained and the railings painted a crisp white, I might pull the trigger on one of these to celebrate. I’m leaning towards the chrome-plated guy from Overstock (cheap shipping and the lower price point add to it’s appeal).
To give an idea of how the stool can be used, (so versatile!) I found this gorgeous picture of a lustrous white one adorning this bath from Pinterest. Source here.
