Happy Halloween, you guys! We didn’t do any costuming this year, but perhaps next year. We just needed a year off from Halloween festivities. That, and we get ZERO trick-or-treaters (which breaks my heart - next house!) so there isn’t much motivation to go all out. When we do have a house someday that gets trick-or-treaters, watch out. Just watch out. It’s going to be scary up in here.
But back to the monthly recap. With October juuuuust about in the rearview mirror, I wanted to take a quick look back on the month and see how we did. We had a crazy busy few weeks, but we still managed to tackle a few projects on the ol’ to-do list. We kicked off the month flying home from our fun mini “vacation” in Texas (you can rehash it here).
We knew we were leaving my sister’s sweet pool and hot tub to come home to a yard full of leaves and some minor changes on the agenda, but it was good to be home nonetheless. I finally got a few bulbs in the ground. By “a few bulbs,” of course I mean nearly 200. (Wipes sweat from brow.) I was a machine. One section of the yard that needed real attention was up by the street, where our mailbox is. I planted rings of bulbs around the mailbox and a neighboring wood post. It looks a little drab here, so I can’t wait to see what it looks like in the spring!
On a random Friday night in early October, I was welcomed home by a package from my Nana, who was sweet enough to send me some towels that she made to match my valance (that she also crafted). Speaking of Nana’s, here’s a fun side note for you. I can track what people search on Google to lead them to my blog and most people type “school house rehab” or “old house rehab” and they end up finding me. THE BEST search term of October (and all time thus far) was someone typing in “my Nana needs to go to rehab.” And voila, they found my site. I was dying. Hysterical. I love that they found my little ol’ blog that way, but needless to say, it wasn’t quite what they were looking for and they bounced. But yes, back to my Nana (who doesn’t need rehab) and her beautiful towels.
We kicked off our guest room spruce-up with a slice of new hardwood to fill in a gap, and added new trim.
We also got our painting game on and put fresh coats on the ceilings, walls, newly installed trim and existing baseboard heaters. The guest room reveal is happening SOON. Promise.
I summoned the readers of this blog (oh how I love the readers of this blog!) to help me pick new curtains to put in the living room. I loved all the opinions and I loved the result - some sweet new duds for my windows!
Oh. And Matt and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary, which I documented in a sappy (but still a wee bit sarcastic) blog post. Love that guy. Well, he’s okay, I guess.
So yeah, bring it on November. Imma ready for ya. We have some fun stuff planned for the month ahead and I can’t wait to bring you all up to speed.
In the meantime, we’re really happy to put that nasty October storm behind us. We didn’t have much damage, and somehow, we were able to keep our power on, so our little old school house: 1, Sandy: 0.
Here’s to a better November for the millions upon millions affected by the hurricane. Cheers to things looking up.
