Trying to leave our little slice of America better than we found it!

August Vacation, Part 2

October 22, 2012

You may or may not remember that Matt and I were out in Colorado in August. Actually, you probably don’t remember at all, because I posted “Part 1” of our trip TWO MONTHS AGO. Oops. Perhaps I didn’t realize how crazy August and September would be? In any event, we are quite overdue for an “August Vacation, Part 2” post, and here she is. If you didn’t read about the first leg of our trip, check it out here.

Mud Room Update

October 20, 2012

You may recall from a previous post that I wanted to change out some curtains to lighten up the room a bit, while adding a little drama and formality (should I need to entertain The Duchess on short notice). I was indecisive but after mulling it over…drum roll please…I bought the gingham sheer panel from Country Curtains, and I am thrilled with my choice. To those that gave advice as to which set of panels you would choose - thank you!

Oh Hey, Fall

October 17, 2012

Seeing as Fall is nearly a month old already, it’s probably high time I start decorating for it. I’m not the type of person to go tooooo crazy on any sort of Halloween decoration, but I do love switching up a couple of seasonal items here and there. I can’t for the life of me remember where I found this wreath, but I love how vibrant the colors are (it’s around 3 years old now) and it really pops from the street, which I love.

The Cottonversary

October 16, 2012

Matthew and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary yesterday, and the day couldn’t have gone better if I planned it. Oh wait, I tottttaaallly planned it. Well, sort of. Overall, we don’t really make a big deal about anniversaries (true, this was only our second wedding anniversary but we’ve celebrated “dating anniversaries” in the past). Maybe we’ll plan a big trip for five or ten years married, but for the earlier ones like #2, we are content to spend our day doing something more low key and more our style.

Everything Is Bigger In Texas! (Part One)

October 14, 2012

I wanted to take a break from our guest room overhaul to write a post about our fun time away this month! Even though the fall projects are lining themselves up, Matt and I took a semi-spontaneous trip to Texas! Does planning it a few weeks before the fly date qualify it for semi-spontaneous status? I’m a bit of a planner, so it qualifies in my book. Lately, we’ve had more than our fair share of police activity in our quiet, quaint lake town.

Fall Helper

October 14, 2012

Fall is for lovers leaf picker-uppers and boy, did we do a lot of that this weekend. Matt’s mom came over to help us (what a blessing!) and with three people, it still took three hours. Phew. Good thing Griffin’s cousin Cindy was on hand to help out!

Curtain Call: Advice Needed - Comments Wanted!

October 9, 2012

I haven’t been happy with the curtains in our living room since the day I bought them. I mean, they were alright. They were inexpensive and readily available, while matching with my overall color plan for the space. They worked with my hasty decorating plan, but they’re just not working now. The color is right for the space, but the length isn’t right for the window and the lack of detail is a bit boring.

Filling In The Gaps

October 6, 2012

I know I said the kitchen would be the next priority in this house, but I want to keep you on your toes and as a result, I pulled a complete 180. Don’t worry, finishing the kitchen is still on the short-term fall goal list. Nonetheless, the focus has shifted to one of the upstairs bedrooms. My brother-in-law Michael lived here for a bit during his off seasons (he’s a baseball player) and as a result, we hadn’t done anything to the room besides a very half-assed paint job on the walls & window trim just to get moved in quickly.

Friday Night Surprise!

October 5, 2012

Okay… let me start by saying that the following “surprise” may in fact be considered lame by 99% of you. However, in my opinion, (which is the only one that matters since it is my blog…muahaha) it is positively the cutest, most thoughtful, meaningful surprise I could ever have received on a random Friday night. No, Matt didn’t buy me a car (that wouldn’t be cute or meaningful, people) and no, Griffin didn’t make the bed (but that would totally be cute and thoughtful).

Curb Appeal...Literally!

October 3, 2012

If you ask me, curb appeal is one of the most important aspects of a home and should never be overlooked. If you don’t watch insane amounts of HGTV like we do, you may not know exactly what I mean by “curb appeal.” Curb appeal refers to the attractiveness of a home’s exterior. It can refer to landscaping, hardscaping, (stonework, driveways) porches, window boxes, shutters, seasonal decor, mailboxes, etc. Having this little ol’ school house look good from the street matters a lot to me, and we have taken great strides each season to make it a bit better.
