School House Rehab
Trying to leave our little slice of America better than we found it!School House Road Trip: Cape Cod Edition
September 24, 2012
After my trip in February to make my sweet tablecloth, I’d been trying to get back up to the Cape to help my nana (you know - the one that sews me curtains and things) with some things around the house. We’ll call it a school house road trip - where we do school house rehab-esque things for others. She mentioned needing some help in the garden as well as some odds and ends.
It's been a wild ride...

Wow… today is the day. Yes, it is the first day of fall, (my readers are soooo astute!) but a bit closer to our hearts, it’s our school house anniversary. We are celebrating three years of blissful home ownership today. 3!! Wow. It seems like just yesterday we were a couple of kids in our early twenties, newly engaged, and on the hunt for some digs to call home. Now look at us!
15 Minutes to Functionality: A Garden Space
September 20, 2012
Having absolutely zero time lately to do anything that merits an actual photo sequence of house progress, I decided to prep for this weekend by taking 15 minutes and organizing my gardening shelf. At least I’d feel like I got something done to aid in some upcoming gardening tasks planned for this weekend. (Why yes, the yard is slated to get some much needed TLC since the last go around.)
Oh, how the time flies!

Every once in a while, I get so overwhelmed by the sheer mass of projects to tackle in this house that I have absolutely NO idea what I want to do next. It’s pretty much a weekly crap shoot around here. Add that to the crazy schedule we’ve been sticking to these days, and there isn’t much school house rehabbing going on. And since a big chunk of my happiness comes from updates and little upgrades around here, you can imagine I’m feeling pretty frustrated.
Weekend Recap: Bonfires, Brews and Ball(s)
September 9, 2012
I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! We had some crazy weather come through on Saturday but today seems to be the start of a string of nice days. I’ll take 75 and sunny all year long, please. Order up! We kicked off the weekend using our little homemade fire pit which is comprised of alternating bricks stacked in a square shape. It boasts the awesome price tag of $0 - the previous owners left a pallet of bricks for which we had no use.
Griffin vs. (Deflated) Volleyball
September 8, 2012
We had some of Matt’s family over last night to celebrate (my sister-in-law) Erin’s last night home. She’s moving out to Denver to live and we had some very minor set-up to attend to before 30+ people strolled in for a bonfire. It was very low key with the exception of our psycho dog. Every time we set up for parties, Griffin goes bat sh*t crazy. He runs around – whimpering, tearing circles around the picnic table – trying to draw our attention away from the task at hand and onto him by any means necessary.
After putting it off for some time...

…we Matt tackled the gutter cleaning. It made me beyond nervous. I would like to hire this kind of stuff out - you know, the kind of stuff where he has even the slightest chance of falling two stories. Yea, that kind of stuff. He came down unperturbed, however, and we’re clear until the spring!
Serious Bathroom Neglect
September 4, 2012
I can count the number of upgrades we’ve done to our bathroom on one hand. Okay, okay… full disclosure: I can count the number of upgrades we’ve done to our bathroom on one FINGER. Eeek. We are such neglectful homeowners. We replaced the baseboard heater cover a while back. It was so rusted out and so gross that even painting it like we did here wouldn’t work. I think it cost about $40, because we had to buy the whole piece with the heating components included.
Put a frame (or ten) on it!

Happy Labor Day, everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend and were able to enjoy some time with friends and family. For us, this past weekend was mostly about getting things done around the house, and nothing makes me happier than that! It’s been a while since we tackled anything DIY in our office. We took it from 0-60 back in the spring with new trim and fresh paint, but it hasn’t really been touched since then.
Anniversary of Irene
August 27, 2012
This time last year, we had plans to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. (Happy almost Birthday, Momma!) We heard there would be a big storm, possibly a hurricane, making it’s way through CT around the time we were set to meet, but my father was unfazed and said they would be up to our house late morning as originally planned. I love my father for many reasons and one of them is that he isn’t easily scared of anything.
