Trying to leave our little slice of America better than we found it!How To Rip Out Vines (While Keeping Your Sanity Intact)
April 23, 2015
I haven’t posted in nearly a month and it’s driving me crazy. Have you missed me? I have so much to say and so much to share. I haven’t been sitting on my bottom around here, I assure you of that. After moving on from the non-alcohol related hangover of Harrison’s birthday week, Matt and I started to really enjoy some of the gorgeous weather Connecticut has been afforded of late.
A Letter To My Baby (12 Months)
March 31, 2015
Hi bud! A quick note about why your 12-month letter is being published 2 weeks after you turned one… yes, it’s the tardiest I’ve been on one of these but here’s the thing - actually here are the few things that are contributing to the tardiness: you had four (!!!) birthday parties, you decided to stop sleeping through the night for quite a few days, we took over 2000 pictures in a little over a week and we visited with lots of family and friends so cut me a little slack, okay?
A Back Door Upgrade
March 4, 2015
With all of the recent snow and sleet, I’ve been stuck in the house a lot. I’ve been looking around and I’m really starting to notice all the projects I’ve started and haven’t finished. There are a lot. An embarrassing amount, really. The mirror was one of them. At least that’s done. We have a wine rack that’s still unfinished, pantry doors that are still half painted in the garage and a guest room that was supposed to be painted two years ago.
My Favorite Things: January/February 2015
February 28, 2015
I’ve been extra careful to keep an eye out for cool things on which to spend my Christmas money but I’ve come up a bit short. Seriously, it’s March tomorrow and I still haven’t spent it. I think that’s good and bad, right? I’m not in the market for a new bed but when I am, I’m going to build (yes, build!) one like this. (Pottery Barn, $1,699) The storage is ahhhhmmaaaazinngg.
Late Winter Lull
February 25, 2015
Matt had to go into the city today for work and as he was walking out the door to catch the train I said, “Isn’t it amazing we’re going to go Monday-Friday this week with no snow?!” He agreed that yes, it was amazing and off he went. Well, clearly we’re both idiots and/or don’t watch the weather frequently enough (both of those may be true…) because as I sit here, there’s more white stuff coming down.
A Letter To My Baby (11 Months)
February 17, 2015
Harrison, Here we are. The eleventh hour. Crunch time. The final countdown. Next month, you’ll still be my baby, but you’ll no longer be my_ baby_. (BIG) Sigh. You’ve had another whirlwind month, as you’re accustomed to by now. You’re growing by leaps and bounds and you’ve cruised right into 18-24 month clothing. Daddy and I can’t wait until you get officially weighed and measured next month. We’re anxious to see if you’ve grown as much as we think you have.
Mirror, Mirror...
January 30, 2015
…on the wall. Yes, the mirror that we found in our garage from the previous owners. It was neglected and beat up but I liked its curves so it avoided the dumpster. I cleaned it up a bit with an old rag and some vinegar and Matt made a fancy French cleat on which to hang it. Voila! We had a functional, pretty-ish piece for our large dining room wall that didn’t cost us a dime.
A Letter To My Baby (10 Months)
January 21, 2015
Harr Bear! Hi, crazy boy! It was January 17th when I started this letter and now it’s January 21st which means we are LESS THAN two months away from your first birthday. I know - that has to be a joke, right?! You’ve officially lived out in the world longer than you lived in me. The last month raced by mostly because you were racing by. This time last month, you were crawling a step here and a step there but now you’re crawling with fervor and you’re all over the place.
An 80s Furniture Makeover Concludes
January 14, 2015
Click here to read my first post about deciding to change up an older jelly cabinet that my parents bought in the 80s. Are we all on the same page? Great. Now that you’re up to speed, I can let you know that the cabinet is done. Yup. Check it off. After much debate about a striped top, striped sides, polka dotted sides and even a solid navy top, I decided to keep it really simple with a fresh coat of paint, vintage hardware, a simple one-letter monogram and a new knob.
Oh, Hey There, 2015.
January 1, 2015
Well, 2014 is in the rearview and 2015 is here whether we like it or not. Did you get a New Year’s kiss from someone you love? Before I get into what I’m proud of from 2014 and what 2015 holds, a quick message for you… Thank you so much. Thank you for reading. Maybe you’re a loyal reader that checks the site daily and maybe you’re new and you’ve landed on this page accidentally because you typed in “mutant yew bushes.
