Trying to leave our little slice of America better than we found it!White Kitchen Trim and Chatterblocks
December 29, 2014
Do you remember when Matt and I ripped off the old, dinky kitchen trim and replaced it? You probably don’t, because it was in March. Then the whole having-a-baby thing happened and that poor trim sat untouched for too long. A couple of months ago, I finally filled the nail holes with wood putty, sanded it down and slapped on a few coats of Behr’s Ultra Pure White. I may add one more coat but for now, it’s looking much better.
A Letter To My Baby (9 Months)
December 23, 2014
Harrison Mark, Before I start in on your letter this month, I just want to thank you for kicking off month 9 with such a bang. Two nights in a row, you slept from 6:30pm to 7:00am. It. Was. Awesome. While it lasted… you’ve slept through the night quite a bit since then, but you now like to start your day at 5:00am. If you could move that back by even forty five minutes, Daddy and I will be positively _sprightly _upon greeting you.
The Most Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever.
December 17, 2014
I know what you’re thinking. “Most Amazing Ever? How bold a claim.” I agree with you. Really - I do. Yet, I’ve had two people (one is an incredible baker) tell me that these cookies are the best chocolate chip cookies they’ve ever had so please, be your own judge. It started out as a basic Martha Stewart recipe but I’ve tweaked it here and there to make it my own.
80s-furniture-makeover-begins
December 8, 2014
I’ve done it again. Just like I did with my dad’s old dressers, I’ve taken something from my parents house and tried to put my own spin on it. Feast your eyes on this bad boy. A jelly cabinet from the 1980s. I asked my parents for the story behind this - why they bought it, where they got it, what they paid… and they can’t remember. Are the 80s the new 60s?
My Favorite Things: October/November 2014
November 29, 2014
I totally dropped the ball on getting this published around Halloween so here we go… my favorite things from catalogs and online shopping over the last two months. I’ll have a holiday gift round up for you by the end of the weekend, too. (Matt - how easy does this make your shopping this year?! Wink, wink.) This pillow. That’s all. (Anthropologie, $58) Oh wait, that’s not all. I want two of them to use by the back window to tie in some of my gold-framed art in that space.
The Garage Just Got Prettier
November 20, 2014
Apparently it’s been three weeks since my last post (not counting the baby letter). Oops. We’ve been quite busy around here and I have about six posts in limbo, so as I warned, there should be a flurry of posts coming your way soon. This is the first. When we bought the house five years ago, my aunt and uncle gave us a gift card to Home Depot as a housewarming present.
A Letter To My Baby (8 Months)
November 18, 2014
My love, my sweet boy, my Harr Bear. Hi, and happy 8-month birthday! The past month has been craaaaazy. Crazy. You’ve been such a busy boy. Are you ready for a rundown? In the last month, you took your first trip to NYC, witnessed your first snow, had a few play dates, took a few hikes, had your first sleepover when Charlie came over, hit up the Long Island vineyards, had your first Halloween, popped your very first tooth, pulled yourself up for the very first time, contracted and kicked your first cold, and pulled yourself up on your knees a bunch.

The Spookiest School House Stories
October 30, 2014
Since Halloween is right around the corner, I thought it was an appropriate time to share the top five “spookiest” (read: top five grossest) things that have happened in the five years we’ve been in this house. A warning before you continue reading… some of these are really gross. As in, reeeaaally gross. Blood, fangs… Okay, that’s your warning. Stop reading if you can’t handle it. Oh and by the way,** there are pictures**.
Skinny Brownies
October 29, 2014
I happened upon a recipe from fitnessmagazine.com that sounded interesting… “Guilt-Free Double Chocolate Brownies.” Um, you had me at “Double Chocolate.” I tried it out this morning (days are so much better when they include brownies before noon!) and I have to say, they’re good. They aren’t Ghirardelli triple chocolate good, but they’re good for having 18 carbs and 111 calories. I like this recipe because you make it all in a sauce pan.
