Spring
Brightening my days
April 7, 2012
I came home on Thursday to find these beauts waiting for me on the front porch. I mentioned in the beginning of this post how our friends surprised me with an overnight stay last weekend, and this was the unnecessary “Thanks!” they sent. The tulips and irises arrived in an adorable, rustic-looking metal vase which looks so cool against our brick column in the kitchen. They are perfect. Thank you for your thank you, JMul!
Colorado Trip, Part 1
May 7, 2012
Disclaimer: what you are about to read is a bit wordy. It highlights the first leg of our vacation in Colorado, so please feel free to scroll just the pictures if you fall into any of the following categories: -You are a slow reader -You’re reading this in the bathroom at work and only have a couple of minutes to devote to my award-winning prose -I bore you Matt attended a conference that took place in Denver in March, and I was excited to tag along with him and spend some quality time with my sisters (who both live there).
Colorado Trip, Part 2
May 16, 2012
When we last left off in Colorado, Part 1, I was exhausted from hiking with psycho dog, full from all of the delicious beer and food, (mostly beer) impressed with my furniture lugging skills, and very excited for our impending trip into the mountains. Matt and I are not tremendous skiers…well…let’s be honest here. By “not tremendous” I mean I’m intermediate and Matt had been skiing once before. Once(!!!) This past winter.
Five Boro Bike Tour
May 9, 2012
Despite our better judgement, Matt and I enrolled in Bike New York again this year. Yes, we are 3 years older than we were the last time we biked 50 miles around the NYC burroughs. No, we didn’t train. Thanks for pointing those things out. We even bested ourselves, and signed up with Matt’s sister and brother who are both in OH SO MUCH better shape than us. We dropped Griffin off at Matt’s mother’s and made the train with a few minutes to spare.
Happy belated Easter!
April 9, 2012
Happy Easter and Happy Passover to you! Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I had a little slot of time Easter morning before we headed down to my parents and I took advantage of it so I could relax bake. Griffin, however, relaxed all morning. When he heard the camera through the back window, he perked up, but only momentarily. But back to my morning. When I said I had to “bake” before, please know I use that term veerrrrrry loosely because in fact, I picked a dessert recipe to bring to my mother’s that required NO baking.
Hola, Primavera!
March 21, 2012
Spring is FINALLY here. Hallelujah! I loooooove spring. I have always loved seeing the new growth and life that accompanies this season and although I had never identified with a favorite season before owning a home, I’m ready to declare it now that I do! My favorite season is SPRING! Glorious, resplendent, uplifting, exciting spring! I have been so in awe this year of the daffodils and crocuses poking up from the ground towards the end of this past winter.
I spy ___________
March 28, 2012
You’ve already heard my whole spiel here about how I love spring. “Blah blah” you’re saying… “we get it, move on to your next house project…” BUT FIRST (dun dun dun) a game of I Spy… Matt and I were running Griff around the backyard tonight after work and during a yard lap, Matt asked me if I saw what he saw in the back woods. Do you see it?
Spring Ahead
March 10, 2013
Like most other New Englanders I know, I’m sick of the snow. Yes, I want spring to come badly. No, I don’t like when the clocks “spring ahead.” At all. Losing an hour of sleep makes me want to do this… Alas, I guess you can’t have one without the other. Daylight savings coupled with a very late night partying with puppies* has me aching to lay on the couch watching Downton Abbey.
State of the Garden (Early June 2013)
June 5, 2013
Don’t try fighting it. We’re a few days into June, and Summer is nearly upon us. I have no idea where most of Spring went. Seriously, does anyone else feel like Spring had just sprung? We had such a beautiful April and such a rainy May that it seems the title of this post is the slogan for this year. Once June 21 hits, the days get shorter, and that thought gets me down, even though we’ll still have three full months of summer to enjoy.
Sunday sprucing
April 1, 2012
Since Saturday was a dreary day around here with showers and cold winds, I didn’t get outside to do any of the garden spruce-ups that were on the agenda. We opted to run some errands and stay in to catch up with the DVR a bit. I caught up on a little laundry and cleaning and we had no plans for the evening. Then I had a great surprise when our friends drove over from New York to dine and stay the night for an unplanned visit!
There once was a garden...
August 14, 2012
…that was an absolute nightmare and the bane of my existence. For nearly 3 (3!!!!) years. It drove me nuts, wild & crazy with dreams of making it simpler and neater looking. I would weed it out in hopes of planting something new, only to have it become overgrown again in days. There never seemed to be enough time in the day to get it done. Then spring rolled around and Matt and I had one of our beloved “do nothing weekends.
